Derek Lowe threw six shutout innings, Matt Kemp and J.D. Drew each had three-run homers and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Philadelphia Phillies 7-2 Thursday night, their seventh consecutive home victory. The streak equals the Dodgers' longest since May 14-22, 2003. They have won 19 of their last 24 overall. Lowe (4-3) gave up five hits, struck out three and walked two on his 33rd birthday.

The college bowl season is in full swing and it just seems that nowadays the excitement surrounding most college bowls has dropped compared to years past.

It used to be that most bowls held some interest for many in the country and New Years day was the culmination of that excitement with all the big name bowls and teams playing in a smorgasboard of football. Nowadays with the advent of the BCS and the literally scores of minor bowls cropping up with a bunch of 6-5 teams that nowbody cares about the bowl season has lost it's luster.

Because my job requires many hours of travel I usually spend a lot of time listening to Sports Radio, ESPN radio in particular and some of the crap coming from some of the hosts is really getting funny. Case in point, yesterday ESPN's Colin Cowherd was commenting on how the NFL was being arrogant to the point of possibly alienating NFL fans with their choice of Detroit for the Super Bowl. He suggested that the NFL should pick warm weather spots exclusively with Phoenix being a possible permant choice as he felt the fans would not appreciate having to wade their way through bad weather for the sports biggest game.
